Parents and Teachers work together!
The Organization of Parents and Teachers (OPT)
is run by parents and teachers. Parent leaders are elected to offices and lead the organization throughout the year. They are supported by an OPT Coordinator.

"The mission of the OPT is to strengthen the parent-teacher connection and assist overall with the children’s preparation for success in school, career, and life experiences."

Susie Esparza is the Administrative Assistant,
and OPT Coordinator

OPT OBJECTIVES:

* To support program activities where teachers, parents and staff work together
(picnics, festivals, expos, etc.) for the benefit and well being of the children and
   families.
* To advocate on behalf of Young Horizons children and families

* To work together to provide children with experiences that are outside the
   center's budget

* To support Young Horizons at community events and meetings where staff

and parent participation would benefit the children's program
* To meet the requirements of the State Department of Education,
   Child Development Division to make
suggestions for the program's activities.

Parent Meetings are a fun and educational way to get involved with your child’s center. Meetings include educational workshops with special speakers, family events such as annual picnic, "No-TV" Night, science fair, Hands-on-Program Illustration, Open House, and graduation. Meeting announcements are posted on the OPT Bulletin Board and on your Parent sign-in sheet.

Annual Family Picnic: The OPT sponsors this spectacular annual event for all Young Horizons families and staff to get together for an end-of-the-year blast! Join us for food, fun, bouncers and games for children and their families.

Hands-on Program Illustration: This educational event "FAMILY Fun Night" is put on by the Teachers to introduce your child’s daily activities and explain what your child learns through “play.” These activities assist you in understanding how your child learns pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-math skills.

Scholastic Book Orders are an easy way to enhance your child’s classroom. When you order books, our program receives bonus points to buy program materials such as curriculum books, reading books, tape players, listening center materials, etc. All bonus points are used to purchase program materials for the classrooms.

You may order books on-line at any time to get great, affordable books...AND help Young Horizons earn points. You may purchase books with your ATM/Debit card or Credit Card. Your order will be sent to Young Horizons for you to pick up in about 2 weeks.

    1) Go to www.scholastic.com/parentordering
    2) Type in the class user name:   YHBookClub

    3) Type in the class password:   Readingisfun

    4) Follow the instructions on the screen

Fundraisers are held throughout the year. Money received is used to sponsor the above events, workshops and more. Parents are asked to assist in all fundraisers. With everyone’s help we can provide extra benefits for the children!

Elections: Young Horizons parents vote for their OPT officers annually. Once your child is enrolled, you are a part of Young Horizons OPT. To become more involved in your child’s education support the OPT team! We are always looking for dedicated parents to volunteer their time and talents.
